Actually, he spit the cricket out afterwords.  Let's also not forget that these crickets were purchased at a pet store, where they are sold for the purpose of feeding to lizards, snakes, tarantulas, scorpions, and other gross things.  I set all our crickets free in the grass afterwords.  I'm like a PETA supporter in the cause of cricket rights.
