It's been almost three months since I posted a new film online! "What the hell is going on, Braxtan?! Did you get lost in the cereal aisle again?". I've been working on several different projects, with "Another Man's Patriot" among them. This film departs the from the beaten path of comedy that you're used to from this site, but it still has a nice BraxtanFILM touch to it that many of you will recognize. This film is a drama and believe me, I never thought I'd see the day.

That was friggin awesome! Man, I knew you could make comedies, but not too many people are that successful at their first attempt at drama. And Weiss, man, you're like the next Jim Carrey. Funny as hell, but you're great in dramas, too!
I didn't understand, though, why the sound effects were late. That was about it, though. Hank, if you ever make another drama, just do it like that!

I liked it, somewhat, but I kept expecting comedy. I kept expecting it even though I read that it was a drama, especially with Jason in the lead role. Every time he was onscreen, I kept flashing back to Kung Pao Kitty and Freddy vs. Ghostbusters. Had you cast someone else then I wouldn't have had that problem with it, but I understand your commitment to using people you've worked with in the past (I'm the same way). His presence didn't ruin the film for me, but it did lessen it's effectiveness. I would have had more sympathy for his character had I not kept thinking about that scene in Kung Pao Kitty where he locks the cat in the dishwasher (I'm sorry, but that scene was too damn funny not to remember).
Other than that, I had no major problems with the film, other than the ending, which I sort of got, yet didn't. It looked good and sounded good (Nice music but please, enough of the opera singer in the background. That's done in a lot of movies like this.)
I do understand you're a comedy director first and foremost, and I appreciate your switch to drama for a movie (It's nice to see a director expand his or her horizon a bit), but for your next drama, try NOT to cast Jason in it, or give him a smaller role, cause if you put him in a major role in a drama, people won't be able to see him as a dramatic character. They'll keep replaying scenes of his comedy films in their minds and not be able to connect with what's going on.
By the way, I am not trying to offend Hank or Jason in any way, just offering my view on the movie.
All in all a good film. Nicely directed, well scored, and enjoyable overall.

I agree more or less with Marc. Jason is typecast as a comedic actor, however I think this role really broadened his horizens as an actor and showed that he can play other parts besides comedic ones. I think the casting was done well.
Also, It seemed like your military background and your view of current events seemed to seep through into your filmmaking which was a nice touch.

I think jason did a pretty damn good job. It is much harder for a comedian to step out of his box to do a drama but Jason was awsom. The only negative thing I have to say about the whole thing was that I wish it were a little longer. But the fact that you don't know what happens when the door opens brings a specail felling to the film anyway.

Its hardly fair to typecast Jason this early in his career. He still needs to prove his chops anyway, and I think that with this film, he is doing exactly that--Give the dude a chance for crying out loud! Or...if you'd rather see someone else in these roles, I know a certain handsome be-spectacled actor that could take over...

I must admit that I did like it even though it was a little too short for my taste. I would have liked to see more dialog between the captor that helped Jason to Jason.
BTW, this captor ( with the sport shoes) was really convincing as a terrorist. Good Job.

I just watched "Another Man's Patriot" last night.
It was rather strange to see Hank Braxtan do a "serious" movie, but he really came through with it. It was very impressive both visually and also in the story department.
I had a little problem with the wall not really seeming that stabile when Jason Weiss' character hit it, but the moment where he peeks out and you can see eye, hole and some wire in a sort of pale view was really great.
Two thumps up
To the Crew: Did Jason really eat a living bug? Or was it a fake? Reason im asking is, that it looked incredibly real...
