Hey so I'm choosing my editing class right now and I'm wondering which I should choose: An Avid Class or a FCP class.  I know how to use the basics of final cut but I was wondering which would be better to learn more on in the long run.  Any suggestions?  Also I'm a Mac user if this is any help.

I have heard a lot of good comments on Final Cut, I haven’t used it personally, it’s just stuff I’ve read on other forums. Good luck in what ever class you choose!

That really depends on what your goals are. Avid seems to be bit more industry standard.

Try both and decide which one you like better.

Go with both of them.

Knowing more than just one editing platform increases your chances of getting a job. Smiley

AVID is considered an industry standard, but FCP is a big favorite with many smaller postproduction houses.

Thanks you guys.  I've decided to go talk to the Final Cut teacher to see how in depth it will be and if its really basic then I spent 2 years learning the basics of Final Cut and will take the AVID class but if it gets more advance then Final Cut and will take AVID next semester

I have to agree with Poot Bort. You need to learn both of them.

I know this is not related to what you are talking about but...

In computer 3D Modeling and animation, 3D Studio Max was the leader for a long time until Maya came in and it became more and more popular.

So we were starting to see people learning and shifting over to Maya.

Well, Autodesk that owns 3D Studio Max realized this and end up buying out Maya. That end up stopping Maya from getting more popular.

Right now, you see a mixture of 3D Studio Max and Maya users.

It will help you alot if you learn both software.
