I think this "Journal" is more for me than for you. It's fascinating to go back a couple years and read what my dreams and aspirations at the time were...and to reflect on how those have changed over a relatively short period of time.
Here it is, nearing the end of 2009. In three short years I've gone from renegade filmmaker scraping by as a film student, to Hollywood Producer. I make more money now than I've ever made...and yet...it's not fulfilling. The days when I would spend all my time and money making silly films with my friends seem so much more full of life.
I guess in hindsight, everyone's past looks better to them, but we really did have a great time. I made some of the best friends I've ever had, and most of them have transitioned with me into the professional world. But I think any of them with any sense would agree with me...it's better to go broke doing what you love than to do well at something you hate. I may make money and get credits now--the things I thought I would have killed for when I was broke...but none of them really fill the void left by doing it...because you love it. There is no sense of accomplishment or savoring of the moment when you see your creation on the big screen...not when you're constantly working on other people's crap. "Return of the Ghostbusters" is the last film I can say was my own...sure, a ton of people helped on it, and it's really "our" film...but with all the heart I poured into it, it will always feel like mine.
The premiere was easily one of the greatest nights of my life. And it wasn't just the premiere--it was the days leading up to, and the days after. The days I spent with family...and great friends...
I'm bringing it back. We're getting the band back together. I've got a script, the equipment, and the manpower. I've spent enough time lying to people and telling them that their work is good. It's time to show these people how it's done...

It's time to show these people how it's done... Go kick some serious ass.
(Reading all these threads on independent films that went nowhere has been depressing.)

The boards have been dead lately... not much to discuss really. Hopefully that will change.
You have my attention. I'll be waiting... I'm very interested.

Good to hear Hank. Its been about 5 years since I found your site and I still show your shorts to a bunch of people. I'm now in film school and loving it though so far I've been hanging out with Photography students more than the film kids. When I arrived at orientation the film teachers made it seem like I should rethink my major and that I will never enjoy a life in film production. I feel I will but yeah expect me to become more active on the boards. Glad to hear you are making what you want to make soon.

Welcome back Hank! its been a while, the forum has been over run with giant tumble weeds in your absence, the kind like the attack of the killer tomatoes! Ive drifted in and the forum these past few months, wondering when youll leak some info on your horror feature (if you were still working on it). Sounds like it may have fallen through but your hungry to do your own thing judgin from what you written (could be wrong). Anyways, good to have you back!
