There has been a question asked recently that challenges the continuity of the Denver ghostbusters and it's canon status in the ghostbusters movie universe.

"Who is Ed's father?"

Just who is this person that connects Ed to Egon here?

One person thinks he knows the answer...

Discuss...

Never saw this "Earth Day Special", but I'm guessing he would have created "Elon" for trademark reasons. If we consider Elon a canonical character he must not have made much of a name for himself as a Ghostbuster since Ed is known as Egon's nephew rather than Elon's Son.

It's been a while but didn't Egon mention his siblings (not by name) in GBII?

I hadn't even heard of the earth day special until recently as well.

As you can see, Elon is in a GB flighsuit and appears to be a ghostbuster.

Just like in the movie Casper, Ray Stantz was not named in the credits but "obviously" thats who he was in the movie.

I'm not sure, but I do know that Egon's siblings have been mentioned in the RGB cartoon show before.  If not by name.

I think this is a cool little tid-bit and could be the only real missing link to making FvsGB or RotGB officially "canon" in the movie sense.

If the The Earth Day Special is part of the Ghostbusters canon than so are: Doogie Howser, Murphy Brown, The Cosby Show and Cheers. Cheesy

That would also mean that when the 'Producer' in RotGB calls Lavar "the black Doogie Howser", he's refering to a real person, not a television character, from his perspective.

Maybe Ed's Parents died when he was young, and was raised by his aunt: Egon and his father's sister, in Denver. He went to high school with Neil, Eugene, and maybe Nancy and Chuck. Ed always admired his Uncle Egon and emailed him constantly questions about Ghostbusting. Ed and Eugene went off to college somewhere in the east. Neil worked various jobs out of high school involving retail and manual labour. Ed got 2 Ph.Ds in the same time it took Eugene to get his BS... Not that I spend much time thinking about this. Smiley

Not to mention, E.T. being canon and "mother nature" being "a real person"  Cheesy

I believe the Elon "character" is canon...but the cameo in the Earth Day Special "isn't" canon.

It's cool to wonder how these characters came to be.  When Ed met Eugene and vise versa.  But I wouldn't dig down too deep to find an answer.  The Denver GBs exist in their own universe.  Regardless if fans want to try to connect the dots to see if this would match up with the "GB movie" universe.  It's probably just one of those mysteries that will never be sloved...

Are you saying Ed was born in Slovakia? Is that official, or officially unofficial? Smiley
