one should assume that the script was only in hard copy form. Are you guys still using typewriters? Smiley

My two cents' worth-

I'm sure they had the script in an electronic form, but the script is likely different from what actually ended up in the movie. It's fairly common for lines to change & get dropped/added during the actual shoot, so a script given to someone would not have been a big help. The best thing would be for someone to watch the movie and transcribe each line so the subtitles are correct.
Smiley

Of course there are changes but it's helpful. I just finished doing subtitles for FvG in which there are many changes, but the script was still very useful. The script, in many cases, is like a second opinion. If you can't tell what they are saying you look at the script. Even if the line has changed drasticly it can still provide clues. So that point is moot. Smiley

I'm not spending one more dime on this thing, not even for postage, no offense.

...we don't have anything to give you,...

Statements like this just don't make any sense if it's in an easily accessible file. I would agree that, in this day and age, it's inconceivable that the script does not exist in electronic form, but maybe Hank has it backed up and no longer has it on his HD. Maybe I’m over-analyzing. Cheesy

I can see how someone might take a certain post by a_ndrew3000 as insulting, especially when quoted approvingly by 2 others. Not that it was intended that way, but some people are more sensitive than others.

I find it strange that transcribing it from the audio is such an ordeal. I understand the desire and support the effort to make it understandable to all non-English speaking people. That being said the film's humor is American by nature and since we as film troupe aren't experts on other countries customs and ideas as to what is funny and what isn't, we geared it to an American audience. That being said if the material is relatable, good luck to you. Seeing as we have already accrued considerable expense and put forth lots of effort with little or no return, I think it's unreasonable to ask for help with something you want to do that we have made clear that we have little to no interest in. However your tenacity is awesome and I hope you end up with product you can enjoy in any language you want. I would like to see this thread put to rest.

Again all the best and good luck

Just to make it clear, I DID intend to be insulting.

In fact, whenever somebody feels that I might have insulted them, just assume that I have.

When I compliment someone, it is actually an insult.

You've been insulted.

It's not a big ordeal, the script just helps. Notice biscoito1 and myself have proceeded without even asking for help. Smiley

I personally believe in a straight translation with all idioms in tact. That does not mean word for word, (which, if you have ever made an attempt to understand Japanese, you would know that doesn't work) but if I say  "Raining cats and dogs" the translation should communicate the idea of domestic canines and felines falling from the sky. Hey, people watch foreign films for a foreign flavor. You don't see British television translated for Americans. Though it's the same language there are many idiomatic differences.

Case in point: 2 posts ago and even some of my last post. Mr. weiss and Mr. Bort seem to be taking my comments quite seriously. I'm not gonna change my particular brand of humour for you. Smiley

I guess "hey, we don't have it in a file we can email you." should be "hey, we don't wanna help you." or maybe "hey, go play in traffic." Cheesy

Step one
STFU

do you think any of the originators of the franchise helped us? No we just did it. I'm glad you want to make yourself some all powerful internet fame of a fucking fan film woo freaking hoo and congratu-freaking-lations.

Step two
If the opportunity to play in traffic arises, please use it.

I can see where all of this is coming from. what probably happened was, during the production no one bothered to help in anyway, now that the final product is done a bunch of strangers appeared to help.
at any moment I never asked for special treatment nor even a tap on my back, all I asked for for help from those who wanted to ( I never demanded or expected anything ). I just believe that people who were born with a disability also should be able to enjoy this masterpiece, the same as people who happened to be born in a country where English is not the official language. The ghostbusters franchise brings us together through one of the best times of our lives, a time when life was much simpler.
and regarding to the whole script issue, I guess the script is seen as some kind of sacred material which must be kept in some special place and adored  ( hehehe just kidding ), now serious, I guess they just got frustrated from people asking for the script and not doing anything with it, if someone is really willing to do such a work, the lack of the script shouldn't be a problem.

sometimes I wonder if this movie is being sold as bootleg copies on the streets of Brazil.

I just believe that people who were born with a disability also should be able to enjoy....

It's called a disability for a reason, anyone that claims themselves as "handi-capable" can clearly do it on their own with out help from others.

You start teaching people that no eyes and no legs is not a disadvantage, but a challenge and shit like this happens.

Did I ask for help? And I don't need anymore internet fame. I'm doing this because I've never done it before. I do that. I've taken jobs just because I hadn't done them before. Smiley

I know some people don't find my jokes funny, so just in case they don't recognize them as jokes I put a little laughing smiley face after them like so: "Cheesy". This is similar to the "jk" that some people use which I believe stands for "just kidding".

For those interested in my progress: I have not worked on the subs for ROTG for a few days as I was out of town. I have less than 20 minutes left in the movie. Since a large chunk of that is credits I'm pretty close to being done. I have somebody who wants to do Spanish. Smiley

great Smiley

Here's a start on a web page: http://ssf.mozepy.com/ghost/

Yes I want to add more info and it will be at it's own sub-domain: http://ghost.mozepy.com/

If you can't get anyone to proof it watch it through once or twice with the audio off. If you can follow it with just the subtitles I would call it good for now. Everytime I go through mine I find little mistakes. Send it too me when you can.

the problem is spelling, I found someone with microsoft word in portuguese to correct it and he just kept making fun of my bad portuguese Sad

I think you should add something for people to submit subtitles in other languages as well

So is he going to help you or not?

How does this look: http://ssf.mozepy.com/ghost/

If we can't get anyone else to make subtitles we can always feed each line to babelfish and see if we get nasty emails. Cheesy
