Hey, my name is Jordan. I'm a filmmaker from the UK, currently in my 2nd year degree in Film Production. I just happened to stumble onto this site last night and i've downloaded 'Return of the Ghostbusters' which i'll watch in the next few days. Looks really amazing for being a amateur film.

Noticed the ol' Canon XL1 in the banner? Why the picture? There are plenty better cameras.

Well you proved me right, thank you.

Of course there will always be better cameras. But the XLs are what most of the modern Braxtan stuff was shot on. So I'll go out on a limb and say that's probably why it's there.

IMO the XL2 is on top of the SD camera.
While the DVX may be easier to shoot with they had to refine the camera three times after canon made theirs, I'm talking about the 100, A, B. In case you didn't know.

Additionally, think about which one is a camera company and which one is an electronics company.
Would you hold an AA meeting at a bar? No probably not!

Any camera with inter-changeable lenses will always be the better choice. The downfall of that is you need to be a bit more advanced to understand the 'why' of it all.

Bullshit. Perhaps if you are a professional with a big budget, but different lenses cost alot of money (800 to 10,000) so it's kind of a useless feature unless you're either A) A jew with jew gold B) Very rich C) A bankrobber or D) In hire of a company.

Uhm are you retarded or did you get up early to practice?

You just proved my point. Pay attention.

I said better choice. I never said more affordable. Most people I know can't afford a decent camera because they spent all their money on fruit computers.

So if by chance you only have $3,700 and not $4,200. Please use it to buy a DVX100B and not a Cannon XL2.

Class dismissed. I will not reply to any more of this discussion.

Cannon may be a camera company... but Panasonic is leaps ahead in respects to video in general.  Panny's easy work flow and compatibility, especially with regards to HD, is only matched by the new RedCode, and Red camera workflow.

Cannon and Sony are almost always in the same boat, they try to push their proprietary codecs/software/hardware, instead of trying to make their products work seamlessly with the current video world and it's boundries.

Can't believe it - been a member since 11/04 and never introduced myself (not that it matters).

Born and raised in Liverpool, England.. visited New York on holiday in 9/96, decided to move to the U.S. in 98.

Background in television goes back to 1990 - during my high school years - when my high school video department was consistently contracted by the regional school district to record and edit events for the region. The video department was ran by a school technician, but the actual video work was handled by a good friend and I.

Left high school - went to college, university and ended up working in an office for 2 months. Quit that and took on a video training course, something to do and the government would pay me to take the course. Milked that course for 1 year.. prior to, and during, the course I was working as a D.J. (mobile) over the weekends - quite fun and enjoyable. Fell into my first video job - literally, right place-right time scenario. Out at a nightclub with friends - enjoying a few libations of the evening - when I notice a guy with a video camera and producer. I decided to introduce myself... my real work begins....

...Video on football legend Bill Shankly Just search glance around for Network 5. Bosnia - investigative documentary One of the more descriptive articles I can find online #14. And a handful of other works... all this was prior to settling in the U.S. in 1998.

After settling in the U.S. picked up work as a Satellite Uplink Engineer for a Tri-State cable company. Over my, almost, 10 years with the company I wore many hats too - Editing co-ordinator, Satellite room technician, Photographer and Director... time to move on.. now working for as a Satellite Broadcasting Co-ordinator for a company who handles entertainment and telecommunications for the U.S. Military. - AFRTS transmissions are handled through our facility. We also handle the same for private cruise lines.

The video bug bit me in 1988 when our high school got a massive technology budget infusion and created the best high school video curriculum in the region. Then video left the curriculum for 3 years - it was used for the 1st year students, then held back for the 5th years students... which I would eventually become (insert evil laugh here).

Over the numerous years I digested all I could of shot compositions, framing, lighting, editing and various other production techniques. Created 2 horror films between 90-92 (ended up being a trilogy that was never completed -until 1/09).

On my off-days, I run my own company producing those cheesy, local cable commercials... I also produce a radio segment for a radio station in my home city of Liverpool. Quite enjoy the paintball, 24 hour scenario only - known for being particular on my beer - enjoy my travel - never put-off to try anything once (I was going to say 'never afraid', but I have been quite scared leading up to the event itself).

I own;

Call me Ishmael. Some years ago - never mind how long precisely - having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen, and regulating the circulation. Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking people's hats off - then, I account it high time to get to sea as soon as I can. This is my substitute for pistol and ball. With a philosophical flourish Cato throws himself upon his sword; I quietly take to the ship. There is nothing surprising in this. If they but knew it, almost all men in their degree, some time or other, cherish very nearly the same feelings towards the ocean with me.

There now is your insular city of the Manhattoes, belted round by wharves as Indian isles by coral reefs - commerce surrounds it with her surf. Right and left, the streets take you waterward. Its extreme down-town is the battery, where that noble mole is washed by waves, and cooled by breezes, which a few hours previous were out of sight of land. Look at the crowds of water-gazers there.

Circumambulate the city of a dreamy Sabbath afternoon. Go from Corlears Hook to Coenties Slip, and from thence, by Whitehall northward. What do you see? - Posted like silent sentinels all around the town, stand thousands upon thousands of mortal men fixed in ocean reveries. Some leaning against the spiles; some seated upon the pier-heads; some looking over the bulwarks
