Hello,

I know it's late, but great work on Return of the Ghostbusters. Really nice fan film.

I've been working on a fan film of my own for the past 3 years. It's been way too long a process, but it is finally coming to the end. It's a Jurassic Park fan film called Prime Survival.

We've had a tough production, including the loss of my video camera, microphone AND quick release plate for my tripod when we were out to see filming the boat scenes. However it was all worth it for what we have now.

Currently I have a few people animating dinosaurs for the movie. It's a very long process and is what is slowing the release down, but the dinosaurs truly look amazing. There's just this last hurdle to get over before I can finally sit back and relax... and then release the film.

Anyway I thought I would just share this with you, having made two Ghostbusters fan film's yourselves. I'm sure you didn't have the easiest of productions. It's a pity you can't get a Wikipedia article at this moment in time, but good to see you're on IMDb. I was actually going to ask how you managed this, because you've not sold your film on DVD, which is one of the ways people suggest getting on there. Was it just a resume submission that wasn't rejected?

If you wanted to check some videos from my film out you can on my YouTube. I've been doing update videos since the day we started to show people the process of the film.

Anyway I just wanted to tell you all a little about my film.

Sounds pretty...extreme, for a fan film director to be taking on such a project. With all the CGI I mean, Hank Braxtan's Return of the Ghostbusters utilized a little CGI from what I saw. But like the original films they had a boat load of Dinosaurs, and if you’re going to have a similar quantity it just seems like your gonna have to pay through the ass to get the CGI done, or you’d have to spend lots of man-hours into it. Heck the only thing I could think of doing - is going old school and doing stop motion.

Anyways if what you said is any indication it sounds quite interesting, I really did like the JP films. Perhaps you could whip up a trailer for us to get a taste for it?

Stop motion is as much work, or even more, then CGI. I speak from some experience from a sketchshow I worked on.

(hates stop motion)

I don't think so. Though I do maybe make it easer on my self, because I don't shoot frame by frame. I find it to be a pretty simple way to achieve an effect.

All I recommend is go find A Sound of Thunder and study it well. If you're doing CGI dinosaurs, and your end product looks like that, try again.

Also, make sure your texturing on the dinosaurs is convincing. I have Poser...and the built in raptor model...and it does not look like a dinosaur. Especially under any lighting other than Godzilla 1998-style lights. If your creatures need the darkness to look real, then you need new creatures.

Just my two cents, I really do want to see what this looks like when completed though.

Well everything has been filmed (just a few odd shots to complete) and the animation is what's being... animated now. It's a very long process but the results are pretty awesome. I've had a few animators throughout the past 2/3 years and currently have 2 main guys animating for us.

In fact, a lot of the animation is complete, we just have 3 fairly big scenes left to complete. I've thought about releasing the film without one of those scenes at our premiere (so we get the 2010 release date) and then having the "extended" scene on the DVD when we come to do that. Here's our Dilo:

While not all of our dinosaurs look as good as this, they still look awesome when moving. I'm happy with the animation to say this is a fan film, but it has cost me a lot. Tongue

Sort of working on a trailer now. Have a few teasers on YouTube but they don't show much footage. The update videos show a bit. Smiley

Thanks for the interest.

The final film! Please respect that we were young and this movie should have been out at the latest last year. Smiley
