Another Man's Patriot (2005)

This is a short film I wrote for a class in film school.  Since I do mostly comedy, I thought I’d give drama a try.  This was shot over the course of three days, including one all-nighter.  We spent the most time getting the look of the film right; I wanted it to be dark (the brightness is pumped up a bit for the internet).  The entire film takes place in one room—which was a set we built inside a studio at the Colorado Film School .  Shooting in a controlled environment like that was nice, since we got to put the light wherever we wanted.  Of course, it didn’t come with out its negatives.  Two 5k lights burning constantly heated the room up to about 85 degrees, and I had to call the fire department to make sure we didn’t set off the smoke detectors—with the lights or the fog machine.  Casting was a real pain in the ass, too.  After I had all the captors cast, a couple of them dropped out and I had to replace them at the last minute.  One character is played by two different people, but I won’t spoil it.

The story centers on a soldier being held captive somewhere in the Middle East .  Although this was a fun and good learning experience, don’t expect to see many dramas from me in the future!
