Freddy VS Ghostbusters (2004)

Every town has an Elm Street , and Denver is no exception. This time the man of your dreams will cross paths with the boys in gray. It's a battle for 1984 supremacy!

This remains the most popular film on the site…some kind of gimmick with the title! This is a 35 minute fan film pitting 1984's darkest villain against 1984's funniest heroes. When I first decided that this is what I wanted to make, it was originally going to be a 5 minute film that was just a fight scene. But, the script just kept on getting longer and longer, eventually evolving into what it is now. We spent about a month on 10 drafts of the script, and about two months filming here and there--every other weekend, a Wednesday night here, a Friday afternoon there; whenever we had the time to get everyone together, we filmed. This movie was shot for around $500.00USD!, and features my first attempt at a lot of different visual effects. With the help of friends, we were able to secure various locations, which saved us money. Another big reason it didn’t cost much (and I didn't have to resort to credit card processing) was because I already had a lot of the props from previous Halloweens, etc. A good bulk of the budget was spent on building the set we destroyed in the final battle.

It's a goofy idea, but it’s fun to watch. I cut the first trailer on February 27th, 2004 with only four days of shooting in the can. I had to keep pushing back the release date because I was also working on other (failed) projects, so I released another trailer in April 2004 to help hold people over. Of course, I made the mistake of putting a release date at the end of the second trailer. "Setting a release date is Fan Film death", or so I was told by a certain TF.N moderator! When all was said and done, the film was available for download one hour after the release date had passed. Eh-whatta ya want for nothin'? Be sure to check out the special features for more insight into this crazy flick.

This film is probably the reason you found this ridiculous site. You may download it from theforce.net - they were awesome enough to host it for us! If you like it, support the cause and join the message board—we have a pretty good little community going. Also I’d like to point out that after a six month struggle with imdb.com, the film was finally accepted to the site. Give it a vote! Go easy on it, will ya?
