Friday the 13th AGAIN! (2003)
Believe it or not, this was actually the first Fan Film I ever made. It all started in early August of 2003, when I was perusing the articles on good ol' Cinescape.com. Then I saw it: A Friday the 13th short film contest. Of course I jumped at the opportunity. I'd never entered any kind of film contest before, and I figured I'd been making them long enough, it's about time I give it a shot. The only problem was I only had just over two weeks to get the thing postmarked. So I quickly rounded up a cast of victims-er, volunteers that included good friends Anthony Foulks, Brad Roddy (who would later play Freddy Krueger-isn't it ironic?), Dan Pappa, Jillian Webber, and Dave Lue to play the big guy. I also discovered No-Face studios right here in
Denver
. Chris from No-Face sold me the sweet Jason mask and arm pieces. The clothes I purchased from a local thrift store. For effect, I weathered the clothing to look ragged and worn. Rather than cutting them up with razors, I put the clothes on the sidewalk in front of my house and beat them with rocks. Sure, I got some weird looks from passers by, but I'd just look up and yell something crazy like "Canoohall!" You know, for effect. So we finally set a day to shoot--the Saturday before the Monday it was to be postmarked. I didn't have a location, but we lived in
Denver
and I just told everyone "We're just gonna drive down I-70 into the mountains until we're in the middle of the forest somewhere". 90 miles later we found a location and started shooting. We shot the first fifth of the script before I decided the place we were shooting was too noisy and we need to move (we didn't go far from the interstate the first time). Upon arriving at our second location, we finally shot the film you see here in just under four hours. The funniest thing was, the gun in the movie fires blanks. I guess somebody thought it was real, because everytime we fired it off, they'd yell "HEY!". So we fired off every round before we went home. So I sent the finished product in to the contest, and found out a month later that we took 3rd place. Not bad, at least there was a cash prize and it technically made me both a paid and award winning filmmaker. I'll tell you what hurts the most: The top three or so films in this competition were originally slated to be included in the "Friday the 13th" Box set. Unfortunately for myself and the other winning filmmakers,
Paramount
cheaped out and went with a 5 disc set instead of 8, so the fan films got cut. They still put my name in the special thanks though...spelled "Hank Braxton", of course.
