The FAQ to end all FAQs!

Since I receive so many emails, IMs and PMs asking questions all the time, I figured I'd put this handy FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page together. Now, I'm not doing this just because I hate getting emails and messages, but I do get tired answering similar questions frequently. Plus, I'm thinking of the people who are too scared to email me.  Now they can just look at this page.

What did you use to make the proton streams in "Freddy VS Ghostbusters"?

I used a combination of Ulead Media Studio Pro and Adobe After Effects. First I used Ulead Media Studio Pro to draw five layers of the proton beam on frame by frame. It took about two months to complete all the proton streams seen in FvGB. Then I imported that footage into Adobe After Effects and added lense flair, sparks, and blue electricity. Check out some tutorials here.

What kind of equipment do you use?

Currently we use Canon XL2 camera, and I edit films on a AMD Athlon 64 3500+ PC. I have an ATI all-in-wonder X600 256mb PCI express graphics card, 2048Mmb of PC3200 DDR RAM, a soundblaster Audigy 5.1 24 bit sound card, four hard drives (about 500gb worth, one 10,000RPM Raptor for the OS), and dual monitors. This is the same computer I use to publish this webpage. We use the Sennheiser ME66 shotgun microphone, which is used for 99% of the audio here at BraxtanFILM.

How much did it cost to make "Freddy VS Ghostbusters"?

Honestly, it cost about $500 to make. Since I already had the proton packs and the Freddy cosume (minus the mask), I did't have to spend much on other things.

Doesn't it seem kinda dumb to make fan films when you can make no money on it?

It's not a bad question. Really, why do any of us make fan films? There are numerous reasons, to be honest with you. Some people believe perhaps they can get Hollywood's attention by making one. Others do it to impress people, or because they have no creative ideas of their own. I prefer to think of them as a hobby. Seriously, is it that much worse than collecting baseball cards? Or putting a bunch of after market crap on your import car to certify it "2 fast 2 furious"? People have hobbies, this is one of mine. Fan films are a blast because it gives the little guy a chance to show people what we would do with the characters. Besides, is there a problem with just wanting to entertain people? We make plenty of original material, but we will probably always make a fan film here and there.

Are any of your films available on DVD?

We're always working on it.   There are a few distributors interseted in releasing these films; we're trying to work out the best deal.

Where did you get the costumes for "Freddy VS Ghostbusters"?

Well I built them, to be honest. I ordered some flight suits and had the Ghostbusters patch and name tags sewn on them. I built the proton packs from plans created by Norm Gagnon. You can find those plans, and all the info you'll need to build your own RIGHT HERE. I spent about $150.00 building each pack. I was originally just building them for Halloween, but figured I might as well make a movie since I have the costumes!

I downloaded one of your movies, but it won't play.

Make sure you have the latest version of Windows Media Player or Quicktime installed on your system, depending on which version you downloaded.

Will you link me to your site?

I have a link exchange on my LINKS page. If you email me and let me know, I'm happy to exchange links. Please use the banners provided on the LINKS page!

Will you guys be making a sequel to "Freddy VS Ghosbusters"?

Right now, a sequel is in production. Although we said we wouldn't do one before, we've changed our stance a bit. When this film is made, it will be bigger and better than FvGB in every aspect. We are assembling a team of effects artists, prop makers, and more actors for what will be a February-May 2006 shoot. Release would be some time in Fall 2006. In the meantime, the Denver Ghostbusters will be making an appearance in a two part episode of "Ghostbusters: The animated series", a comic book, and more.

Would you guys be willing to come to (enter location here) to help us shoot a movie?

Being that we all work, I'm gonna have to say no--unless we get paid for our time. Not to be a jerk or anything, but please understand, without some financial compensation, we just can't afford to take off from work and make a movie for someone.

Will you put my question in your Frequenly Asked Questions?

That really depends...is it a Frequently Asked Question? Is it even a good question?

I have an idea for a fan film. It's Freddy VS Jason VS Pinhead VS Michael VS Chucky VS Predator VS Alien VS Superman VS Bin Laden VS The Rock VS etc. Would you make it into a movie?

No. Believe me, I'm sure your idea or even completed script is nothing short of breathtaking. But you should make it yourself. It's much more rewarding, and it's great experience. The truth is, I don't want to make any more versus films. If you want to be a filmmaker, make the movie yourself! Besides, I might butcher what your vision for the film is.
