5 Days and Fifty K (2003)
This film is a complete disaster of profanity and crude jokes. Jacob Cole is quoted as saying "Argh! My ears are burning!" after watching this thing. Another person, who asked not to be identified, said "I didn't know you could use the F word like that." "Fifty K" (as often referred to) was one of my first attempts at making a feature length film completely void of copyrighted material. It was also the first thing I filmed with the Canon XL1 I purchased on eBay. As usual, it starred a bunch of friends and co-workers who didn't have much experience acting, but wanted to help anyway. We had a great time filming this over the course of about a month, as we shot in various locations around
Denver
. A lot of this thing moves kind of slowly, but there is a decent bit of action and some good jokes. Also, forgive the horrible framing--I filmed this thing in full screen, then noticed that the boom mic was in a majority of the shots. Apparently I had learned that the XL1 viewfinder isn't entirely accurate. So I cropped the top and bottom of the film to make it widescreen. I didn't have the same groovy technology I had to make Freddy VS Ghostbusters with, so I couldn't manipulate the frame to fit within the letterbox matte. So, you may notice that characters have their heads cut off now and then. Also, I shot it all on automatic and without a tripod. Don't get me wrong, this is a fun movie with some pretty decent jokes...but man, is it BAD!
